About Ipomoea:
Ipomoea, or Batatas, is an interesting plant for mixed containers and window boxes, but also in the garden beds. Planted in full sun the habit usually is compact and slightly spreading with relatively short offshoots, whereas the stems may become long and leggy when ipomoea is planted in the shadow. However, the growth habit can easily be adjusted by cutting back stems.
Some varieties may produce pale purple flowers during the summer, but they are sparse and often hidden below the foliage.
The decorative impression at first sight emanates from the intense, yet composed colours. Especially the dark, purple-red shades and the bright lime green varieties are interesting. But at close also the shape of the leaves and the lobes catch the eye. Hence the varieties have been divided into series according to foliage and growth habit.
The SWEET CAROLINE- series is very decorative with palmate foliage in clear and warm colours, and a relatively compact growth with medium-sized leaves.
The SWEET HEART-series also has a relatively compact habit, but the leaves are graceful and heart shaped.
ILLUSION is the latest series – it has long and slender lobes and an elegant growth habit.
